The BSI design helps to achieve accurate colors, smooth tones, and reduced noise when working in difficult lighting conditions. The increased resolution greatly benefits photography applications that rely on fine details and it also benefits video recording by improving sharpness through downsampling. The standout feature of the fp L is the high-resolution, full-frame 61MP BSI CMOS sensor featuring a Bayer-style color filter array. A single SD card slot is available for internal file saving and the fp L also supports recording directly to USB-C-connected hard drives, benefitting raw video recording and other large file size recording applications. The sleek and minimal design of the camera body incorporates a rear 3.15" 2.1m-dot touchscreen LCD and the included EVF-11 Electronic Viewfinder allows for clear eye-level monitoring. The sensor's design also now includes on-chip phase-detection autofocus, which greatly improves focusing speed and accuracy, especially when tracking moving subjects.īeyond sensor upgrades, the fp L also introduces the ability to receive continuous power via USB-C to benefit extended recording times, such as when shooting time-lapses, extended clips, or when using the camera as a webcam. The BSI design of the sensor achieves low noise and offers a sensitivity range up to ISO 25600 for working in low-light conditions. The new 61MP full-frame BSI CMOS sensor suits high-resolution stills shooting and up to UHD 4K video recording with 12-bit raw output when recording externally. ![]() ![]() ![]() The improved sensor and focusing greatly benefits photography use while also maintaining the same impressive video recording capabilities for a professional cinema workflow. Identical in form to the first fp, and maintaining accessories compatibility, the fp L is small enough to disappear into a rig for filmmaking uses or serve as a highly portable option for travel photography. Hybrid Phase- and Contrast-Detection AFĪ high-resolution update to the original fp, the Sigma fp L Mirrorless Digital Camera with EVF-11 Electronic Viewfinder is a compact and modular mirrorless camera featuring a new 61MP full-frame sensor, improved autofocus performance, and a versatile feature-set catering to both photography and cinematography applications. The EVF-11, as it is officially known, will be sold on its own for $699, and is compatible with the original fp. The Sigma fp L will be available in mid-April for $2499 body-only, or $2999 with the EVF. High speed FullHD recording at up to 120 fps is supported, though with a crop. It can also output a Raw video feed over HDMI that can be encoded as ProRes RAW or Blackmagic RAW, depending on what type of recorder you attach. The fp L can capture UHD 4K 30p video internally and can output 12-bit Cinema DNG Raw to an external SSD. Due to its size, the fp L only has an electronic shutter, which results in a 1/15 sec flash sync speed and the possibility of rolling shutter. It's also sealed against dust and moisture. The fp L is the smallest camera in its class at 113 x 70 x 45mm (4.4 x 2.8 x 1.8") and weighs just 427g (13.2oz) with battery and memory card installed. Otherwise, little has changed compared to the original fp. One quirk of its design is that there is no automatic eye sensor: you have to use a button to manually toggle between the LCD and EVF. The electronic viewfinder has 3.68 million dots and a large magnification of 0.83x, and can be tilted upwards. The EVF adds a headphone socket (something not offered on the body of the camera). It uses the USB and HDMI ports on that side of the camera, with the USB port offering a pass-through (HDMI does not). There's also an optional new electronic viewfinder that screws onto the side of the camera. This new model adds a 61 Megapixel full-frame sensor (almost certainly based on the sensor used in the Sony a7R IV), a hybrid autofocus system, true 24p video capture and support for USB Power Delivery. Sigma has announced a high-resolution version of its ultra-compact, full-frame fp, known as the fp L. ![]()
